This past weekend saw Chelsea take the FA cup, winning 1-0 over Manchester United. For supporters, one of the very few highlights all season.
With the FA cup behind them, the rumors that have been circulating all season long now begin to take wind – how will Chelsea continue ahead?
The elephant in the room is the status of Andrea Conte. There has been negative energy surrounding the Italian ever since he let Diego Costa go with a simple text message. This is something absolutely unheard of and it seems he was never able to shake this particular monkey off his back.
Add Chelsea’s sub-par form this season, no Champions League for the next campaign and the so-called negative energy throughout their training sessions = one very unhappy Chelsea Board.
It will be very surprising to see Conte still at Chelsea at the start of the new campaign. At the current moment, there is no clear indication of who will take over the Blues if Conte does indeed get the boot.
Although, I may have spoken too soon. As of Wednesday morning, rumors have been surfacing that Luis Enrique, previously FC Barcelona’s coach, is next in line. Switching coaches is nothing new to Russian owner Roman Abramovich.
Let’s move on to even more bad news, shall we?
At only 26 years of age, Thibout can be rated top 5 keepers in the world. But there is unrest with the Belgium player, with Thibout stating he will decide on his Chelsea future after the 2018 World Cup. The goalkeeper currently has one year left on his contract.
Renewing his contract should be the number one priority going forward, and now the Mirror reports Chelsea has offered to match the Belgian’s salary to Manchester United’s De Gea at 200,000 euros-per-week.
The Brazilian is eager to see some playing time and hasn’t seen too much action all season (only 6 goals and 7 assists to his name), and now the Red Devils are keeping tabs of his situation.
He later added fuel to the fire with his latest social media post. See someone missing? Yea, it might be his coach.
Before the FA Cup Final, Willian was interviewed by ESPNFC where he was asked how happy he was with his coach. His response: “Oh boy! Do you really want me to tell you?”
It’s interesting to note Willian has great respect and admiration for Jose Mourinho and a transfer to Chelsea’s rivals would mean a special reunion with the Special One.
The man with 12 goals and 4 assists this season will apparently stay at Chelsea depending on which players the club brings in for the new season.
Chelsea will miss Champions league next season, so contending for the title should be the primary focus; Hazard has every right to be promised the winning mentality for a club who has looked lost and unidentifiable all season.
Another rival keeping close tabs are Manchester City. The club is rumored to be sniffing around for 100 million euros, with Pep Guardiola said to be an enormous admirer of the Belgian attacker.
In previous transfer windows, speculation linking him with Real Mardid has been consistent – this summer will be no different.
It sounds like the star player has given Chelsea an ultimatum.
Hazard has won two Premier League titles since joining Chelsea from Lille in 2012.
Supporters can only hope and pray the Chelsea Board know what is best, with three star players on the fence of leaving the club this transfer window.
Did I even mention other players with expiring contracts? Gary Cahill, Cesc Fabregas, David Luiz, Pedro and Oliver Giroud head into the summer transfer window with just one year left in their contracts.
With no Champions League to play in next season and a plethora of players lost in limbo, one can only hope Chelsea FC can save the sinking ship and re-build into a strong team for the 18-19 season.
