In keeping with today’s theme (Drake’s new album, “Scorpion”, is set to drop at 11 p.m.) our Throwback Thursday selection this week is Drizzy’s first hit, “Best I Ever Had.”
In the track, Drake speaks to a woman about how she’s the “best he’s ever had” and talks about what makes her such a fine female.
Being his first prominent release, the track shows just a glimpse of Drake’s versatility, as he both raps, dabbles into the R&B realm with singing, and uses a number of different flows to create the catchy hit.
Making it’s debut on Drake’s mixtape So Far Gone in 2009, “Best I Ever Had” was an instant hit, prompting Drizzy to release it as a single off his first EP in 2010.
The song peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S., and was Drake’s first top-10 single. It was the top song on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts in 2009, and went 3-times platinum.
Gear up for Drake’s album release tonight with a trip back to where it all began for the Canadian rapper; with the best he’s ever had.
