Annabelle, Valak, Ed and Lorraine – What’s ahead for our ‘Conjuring’ favorites

Ed and Lorraine Warren were prominent paranormal investigators for over fifty years. You might know them from The Conjuring. But those movies were based on true cases that the Warrens investigated.

The Warren cases have been prominently featured in many supernatural horror films, including seventeen films in the Amityville Horror series. However, we’re here to talk about the films in The Conjuring universe. The timeline is as follows:

  • The Nun (2018)
  • Annabelle: Creation (2017)
  • Annabelle (2014)
  • The Conjuring (2013)
  • The Conjuring 2 (2016)

Now, that’s the current timeline with all the movies that are out right now. Coming up on June 26, Annabelle Comes Home will be hitting theaters. This one takes place, kind of in the middle of The Conjuring. It’s after the beginning of The Conjuring, but before any major events. Yeah, it’s yet another prequel. After the events of Annabelle, the Warrens bring the possessed doll to the locked artifacts room in their home, placing her in the glass box and bless it. But, because the horror movie needs to horror, Annabelle awakens anyways and awakens all the evil spirits locked up.

I wish I could say the Warrens realized it’s a mistake locking up a bunch of possessed objects together in the same room with a notable one that is literally a conduit for other spirits…but I mean, this is before the whole Conjuring series, so obviously they never learned their lesson.

Speaking of The Conjuring…There’s a third one set to release in 2020. Production began early this month, and the current release date is September 11, 2020. There is no current plot released.

But the news doesn’t end there. In April, film producer Peter Safran announced that a sequel for The Nun is in development. Again, too early for a plot release. It’s also too early for a scheduled release date.

Is that all? No, it’s not. Remember in The Conjuring 2, there was that little song the kids sang about the Crooked Man? Then the demon manifested the Crooked Man into a very terrifying monster for about ten seconds of screen time? Well, he’s getting his own movie. In September 2018, Safran announced that a script is being written. Sadly, we don’t have much more information than that. Nor do we know if The Crooked Man would feature the Warrens.

Paranormal fans, get ready.
