Stranger Things is back with new episodes on Netflix. When will the small town of Hawkins see true peace?
Not this season. Joyce is suffering from the loss of her boyfriend, Bob. Hop is trying to be a father to Eleven, while also trying to start dating Joyce. Eleven and Mike, and Max and Lucas, are head over heels with each other. Dustin even has an ‘apparent’ girlfriend.’ Nancy and Jonathan are working together at the town paper.
The gate is still open, and now it’s the Russians that are experimenting with it. Seriously, the Russians are yet again the enemy. It’s a long old trope. What if – and bear with me here – What if…the Canadians are the enemy. That doesn’t happen often. The Mind Flayer is back, with a grander plan, too.
Naturally, the main characters are all split up on the same trail, finding different clues and learning different things. Eventually, they’ll all get together, share facts and turn out victorious.
Dustin comes across some coded Russian radio transmissions, and heads to Steve Harrington, and his newest love interest, Robin, for help translating it. Together with Lucas’s sister, Erica, they discover the base of the Russians and the gate.
Will starts feeling the Mind Flayer’s presence, and confides to Mike and Lucas. They get with Max and Eleven to hunt down the Mind Flayer’s newest host – Billy. Nancy and Jonathan are originally seeking out a possible story on diseased rats, when they discover something much more sinister than rabies. They join forces with Mike’s party.
All the while the kids are running around getting into dangerous hijinks with Russians and crazy exploded rat monsters, Hopper and Joyce and investigating electromagnetic disturbances and being chased by an assassin.
It’s strange, it’s funny, it’s romantic and it’s creepy. Season three of Stranger Things is well worth the binge.
